Celebrating “Dogtober”
As “Dogtober” comes to a close, we are enjoying celebrating the animals who have changed our lives here at Strayboots. But we also want to take the opportunity to recognize and shed light on the many less fortunate animals. Here is how we plan to help:
This November and December, we will be donating 10% of every sale we make to an organization supporting animal welfare and the fight against animal cruelty. Animal cruelty, unfortunately, comes in many forms: dogfighting, hoarding, puppy mills, neglect, and abuse.
The ASPCA estimates that around 6.5M animals annually are being sent to animal shelters and 1.5M are euthanized nationwide. This is due to several reasons: illness, overcrowding, aggression, rescues being shut down, and more. In addition, an estimated 10,000 puppy mills are still being operated around the United States. These pups are kept in terrible conditions until they are sold, often stuffed in cages with other dogs to cut down on overhead costs. On top of this, the adult dogs used for breeding are often neglected when they are unable to further provide breeders with puppies. Finally, although it’s hard to pinpoint an exact number, the ASPCA estimates there to be tens of thousands of dogs that are forced to fight for entertainment throughout the country.
These are just a handful of ways these animals are mistreated daily. Most of the Strayboots family pets are rescues, and we give thanks for the immeasurable amount of joy they give us in return. We may not be able to bring them all home with us, but with your help, we can make a big impact.
Thank you!
